Wanted: Domain Appraisal First Domain Purchases...

Right,

I've been hanging round here for a few weeks. Didn't break the bank on these. It's more for a test/learning curve for me. I know I'm sitting here asking questions now, but sometimes the best way to learn is just to get moving (that's what I did with freelancing...and it turned out ok

)

A few one word domains, keyword domains and I did have what I consider to be a "brandable domain" that was "available" - disappeared when I checked out - was probably my favourite of all!

I suppose in most peoples eyes, these are random picks, but they weren't for me!

Views good/bad/constructive I welcome.

Hikingforum.co.uk - the only one with any SEO value. I just renewed it, as it was first for hiking forum on G.uk when I had it live. I also have 2 x vbulletin 4x publishing suite to go with it, so the buyer is likely to want one of those which is a bonus

If you think it's reg fee/£0, just put that.

If not, please put what you would expect for quick auctions (such as here or domainlore etc) and what you would hold out for, if you were happy to keep them for a few years.

I don't see any value in the "random dictionary word" domains such as plunged, plunging, obligee, etc. Just because it's in the dictionary doesn't magically make it of any value whatsoever.

midlandscleaning.co.uk and hikingforum.co.uk are the pick of the bunch, both have "some" value. analystjob.co.uk is a tough one because the plural would be 50x better and it's a small niche anyway.

All in all, have 2 ok names in your very first batch of regs puts you ahead of a lot of other newcomers to the forum.

No your right there. But, they are just a couple I came across. Until I've tried to search/buy/sell I won't really know what's what, so it's just a test for me

I bet most people on here wouldn't of valued Fetch.co.uk at the £15k+ mark?

+propellers went for £720 on DL so I couldn't resist hehe.

I could find plenty that are similar to midlandscleaning, but, I don't think keyword domains are really the future so not really sure.

I'd agree that hikingforums is the pick of the bunch.

In the whole EMD debate these will still have their place. Offline they can look a little clunky and cold - but online (particularly through PPC) the EMD will draw the eye of the consumer. They will trust this is what they are looking for - and will be down to you to convert.

EMD is not gone, just not the bonus there once was in natural SERPs (which will reduce demand and so price - particularly on forums such as these, and on DL) as many domains are changed hands between domainers / SEOers who have now lost the benefits.
