1. it wouldn't actually delete until + 42 days, after expiry
2. most if not all auto renewls for GTLDs are actioned on the day of expiry (not before)
3. If it's with godaddy or any other major reseller. It will remain as a brought-in domain on their reselling books.
Godaddy and others now have a habit of adding a years renewal (at their expense) even when the original registrant hasn't paid for renewal (plays havoc for those that use the WHOIS for domain checking, including the current owner).
You mention that the domain is "Extremely Branable" I'm going to guess you got about a 1 in a 100 chance of seeing this domain drop. Make that 1 in a 1,000.
