Wanted: Website Review Endowment Policies

Just given one of my first mini sites a makeover with a design from theme forest and added a couple more pages of content. Think it looks OK? Currently ranking on first page for the term "endowment policies" which according to the KWT is a pretty high competition phrase. (link in signature)

Some quick points:

Make the logo clickable to home page.

I prefer black text to grey as easier to read.

Would like to see a home link in the nav menu.

I think FAQ style of writing might suit.

Position of AdSense probably non-optimal.

I don't use large page images because they take up too much valuable vertical space.

Nice clean looking site From an seo point of view you probably want to make the page heading's text rather than images and possibly do the same for the text in the main logo and tag line

Hi. My immediate reaction is that it looks great and very professional.

I agree with the other comments. My main one is that the grey text is too pale - you may well be able to darken it without going as far as black. I'm not convinced about the photograph changing - personally, I find it distracting. The bottom right ad block works pretty well when it is Google Adsense, but I have seen a couple of specific-company adverts appear that have quite strident colour schemes and are much more off-putting and don't have a white border.

I'll try to find time to look more closely, but I think this already looks very good indeed.

Thanks for all the comments so far, will be making some more changes tomorrow. Any more ideas appreciated, ideas for adsense placement?

It can be a good idea to get someone whose first language in English to have a look at the content for you, to avoid such things as "That is a proceeding preferred by many investors as it is fairly quicker"

Nice looking site, but what is the usp? From the SEO perspective I mean. The latest update is caning and will continue to cane thin, content, adsense based sites (yes, I know that some are still geting away with it, but continue to watch the space). Even if the content is unique and original.

I'd ask yourself, 'what is the killer app that I can out on this and make it unique?' or 'what element can I update on a regular basis that will be a useful resource for people to link to?'

You've got a good structure for a site, but how different is it from other sites that cover the same topic? If the answer is 'not very' you'll have a job on your hands.

Hope that doesn't come across as having a pop, call it 'constructive criticism' ;)

Best of luck....

It's just a minisite...most minisites I see don't have a perticular USP, just have a few pages of unique content? Am I missing something :).

Just going to leave it to age a bit now as it's a new domain then go from there. The "panda" update moved me from 27th to 7th in a day so I must be doing something right I guess?

Again, thanks for the reply.

Hi Aaron

I think that's my point - for me, the day of the mini site with the good keyword domain will soon be over. Sites need to offer more than that, and the Panda update is the biggest alarm bell indicating that to everyone. Check out the google webmaster forum after the update if you don't believe me. It's full of people saying 'but I had unique content and a nice domain' - not enough anymore.

Google loves a bit of freshness, so your newly updated site will get a nice boost. But if you just leave it as is, I'd imagine it will shortly beging to sldie away.

Just my thoughts....

I'll see how it goes, It did have three articles, added two more this week so there is new content going on. Cheers for the input.

Panda hasn't had an impact on any of my mini-sites which only have a few pages, infact some are doing better than ever. They aren't websites I'm overly fussed with though, so time will tell how things will pan out in the long term.

Having said what I did, your link profile is pretty strong - if you combined that with regular updates and some killer content, you could be looking at the top...
