hi all.

popular music genre, dubstep.com

thoughts on this?

cheers

I'm not going to attempt to valuate this one for you but it certainly has value. I would just add that now would be a good time to sell while dubstep is still a very popular genre of music, maybe in another few years it might not be quite as much as trends change.

I second this. If anything, a year ago would've been best as dubstep was hitting its mainstream commercial peak then. Now it's still good; but around early 2011 was it's prime imo.

Don't know about value; maybe approach record companies and guage the interest from there. At least you have the .com.

Good luck :)

I really like this one.

I think Dubstep is still going to be popular for a while and if we see some more good stuff from the likes of Skrillex and Nero this year it could get pushed further into the mainstream.

The people who make those 'sound of dubstep' albums may be a target??

difficult to monetize i think - a forum seems your best bet, but it will get busy and from experience its quite difficult to make money from a music related forum.

i own the dubstep.org.uk if it is of interest to you (or anyone else) ?

.com often go for impressive prices, and dubstep is popular nowadays, so there's definitely potential. I wonder what other genre domains have gone for?

I thought I'd have a look at namebio for other genres; NONE have been sold in the exact match for the genre itself.

Closest I could find:
NewRock.com went for $8.3k 1 year ago,
JazzMusic.com went for $35,500 in 2008
CountryWestern.com went for $20,000 in 2008
RapVideos.com went for $70,000 in 2007
PopStars.com went for $21,000 in 2009
Punks.com went for $13,000 in 2009 (which isn't even directly music related)

These are just a selection of the *best* I could find in 10 mins.

[dubstep] = 823,000 global pm
[jazz music] = 27,100 global pm

By this logic alone (considering jazzmusic.com provides probably the best alternative available information), dubstep.com should be worth a lot.

If it's done purely by exacts and extrapolating the values, which is very silly I know, then dubstep.com =~ $1.06 million

However, Jazz music is worth approx $8billion as an industry as of 2010 (latest figs quickly avail), and dubstep, whilst gaining in commercialism still remains realm of the independants and underground scene, but is becoming more mainstream.

So really there are arguments for pricing it at the low-mid xx,xxx mark or the really high figures of possibly xxx, xxx+ - Personally, I would expect and hope this to do very very well for our man here.

Good luck with it!

Dont think a forum will work, dubstepforum is HUGE and has been going years.

A blog would work though if you can keep up with the releases...

Any more thoughts on this? Received a very interesting offer but slightly attached to the name!

Thanks
