Drop catching help

Hi guy's i been trying to catch some .co.uk names but every time i attempt to catch a name the domain has already been backordered or booked so i need to get the information on what names are dropping first so i can book before other people . Can any body help me or as any one got a better solution ? thanks guys.

Buy drop lists, some people are doing upto a month in advance.

Alot of people also build their own searches to find the names. Its not uncommon on caught for example for at 4am on the day a domain changes from renewel to suspended for a name to become booked.

The easiest option would be setup your own tag and hire a catching script, that will give you an on-parr option, but realistically high end names are never really caught by back ordering companies its always the solo catcher.

Don't bother buying drop lists, it's money for old rope! There are several available for free or you can make your own.

Bang on right. As a carer and suffering from chronic insomnia for over 5 years, it one of the few advantages it brings, I tend to book a lot on caught. But like Skinner says, it doesn't bring in the better names though!!

To help build your own drop lists look at Domain Name Pro, catching script wise, as I haven't done it I can't say which is the best method, but Caught uses a rolling 4 per second 24/7 (or close as), and DropSystem gives you the option of running upto 1000 per minute until your quota is used, or saying you want to run 2 per second all day but you'll take a punt for 6 hours and run 5-6 per second and hope it drops there.

I don't know how RTL works, or any of the others, like Droppr, however RedBird, GoldFrog and Monahan all have private scripts they wrote and seem to have ALOT of success with them, maybe worth asking if they lease a copy ?

I know some others have wrote their own, but I don't know your tags to know how often you catch

It's not just the catch script though, you network path to Nominet add to the equation.

The scripting is quite simple and the Nominet DAC, Automaton & EPP pages give more than sufficient information for a programmer to build scripts for drop catching or list building.

while list length > 0
  for each domain in list
    write domain name to the DAC
    {if catching}
    if the reply = "domain name,N"
      fire off EPP / PGP reg request
      remove from catch list
    {if list building}
      process the dates from the DAC reply
    {end}
    pause desired interval
  next domain
end

What nobody will tell you is how they tweak their code or what drop patterns they have observed, this is where you "add value"

I would assume the standard Quota / Hours / Minutes / Seconds per Second would give you a massive advantage over a shared 3rd party catcher even with a high ?ms away ?
