Hello

I have my eye on a .com domain name it expires according to the whois on the 25 Oct 2005.

What advice can you give me on who to use to catch this name for myself, Its not really generic but a town name that is near to me?

Please PM if you are able to catch .coms?

Regards,

Sean

You should use the following services (at a minimum):-

http://www.snapnames.com/
http://www.namewinner.com/
http://www.godaddy.com/
http://www.enom.com/ ["club drop"]
http://www.pool.com/

If you use ALL the above, you've probably got a 50% chance of getting a decent domain, a 70% chance of getting a semi-decent domain and a 90% chance of getting a reasonably obscure but still generic domain.

Note: except in the case of Godaddy, you only have to pay on "success", but again except in the case of Godaddy, all the other services operate in an auction format, so you won't necessarily get the domain for the minimum bid if there are other people interested in it.

Thank you Edwin. I really dont know what to do as I dont really want others to bid on the .com I have my eye on?

What are my chances of it being deleted without anybody knowing?

Thanks again Edwin for your advice!

Sean

Chances are 0.00% I'm afraid. The .com drop market is the most cutthroat in the domaining world.

Ok Thanks again, It looks like I will have to contact the guy and make him an offer!

I will let you know how I get on, once I get my hands on it.

Sean

Thanks for the info Edwin - one of our customers is *desperate* to get hold of the .com version of their name, which expires later this month.

They don't have a lot of money to throw about, but we obviously want to do them a good service.

Had already signed up to two of those services above, but following on from your post we've signed up with the others.

As with Domainbrand, will post here how we get on...

Is it me or can onyone else fine where you back order a domain using NameWinner And eNom? Cant fine that option at all :???:

As promised above I'm pleased to report back that SnapNames caught the name we wanted and, after the three day auction, we were the highest bidder. Two others kept outbidding at (literally) the last minute but we held firm.

Our client is very happy.

Thanks again for the help.
