Small rant here. DomainNameSales.com is a f*cking joke.

Every time you enquire for a domain some guy emails you and gives you bull shit response:

"I spoke to my client regarding this premium domain, and based on many criteria his expectations are $8,300.00.

I have worked with this particular seller in the past and he is willing to negotiate."

Every single domain has a valuation of "$8,300" out of no where.

I know brokers are just doing their job but the way they conduct their business is an absolute joke I can't even take seriously. What's the point in even starting negotiations when the other guy isn't even on this planet. I'm guessing they train a sales team to just read off a book and sell the domain at a certain % of the asking fee.

Do you think they own them all or do they have clients? I wish someone would pay me $8,300.00 for one of my domains.

No idea. The domains themselves are pretty shit - Most people wouldn't even register them. But the fact that you email them means they think they can charge the world.

Just keeping my options open. I wouldn't have paid more than $100 for either of those names but I'd like to have a Plan B, C and D in place.

They were also very random brand domains (e.g. TradeScoop.com)

I've purchased a few from these guys and none have been valued at $8,300.

With one domain I bought there about six months ago, I managed to get it for less than 50% of the original asking price, but the guy made it seem like he was going back and to between me and the domain owner. I'm 99.9% sure the guy I was emailing actually owned the domain himself - so I don't get why they try to make out like they're brokers when they actually own the domains.

Either way, I've had a couple of good deals through there - I prefer it to SEDO.

Ah, brand domains. Then DNS's strategy makes perfect sense. The only way to "win" with pure brandables - where sales are few and far between - is to ensure that each sale "carries" the renewals for all the hundreds of domains that don't sell. (Unlike generics, it's nigh-on impossible to proactively track down potential buyers for a made-up brand, even if you wanted to).

BTW, they work on the basis of quasi-automatic email templates and most people don't seem to bother to rewrite the default text, which is why you probably see the same messages so often.

Do you also get "someone else is interested" emails from them?

I asked about a pretty random domain and was quoted $8,300 - then a few days later I got that nudge email.

I've had them months later...

You can set up a series of automated follow-up emails, and choose the intervals at which they get sent out. That's almost certainly what you're seeing...

yeah it is a heap of retarded shite.. strangely a few here really rave about it, would like to know how many sales one really shifts through it.

Seems they don't acceps offers of $830 for a name they value at $8300.

The name in question is a .com which I regged the .co.uk only a short while ago - it's not going to get any other offers soon/ever. If they are holding out for more then they are out of luck.

I can understand holding out for more if it was a good name but this name just isn't all that (I know I am interested but it's a pretty tenuous reason as to why and one that would need a fair bit of branding/marketing work on to be useful in any other way than by recommendation - I intend to use it so current clients can direct people they know to, it's a not-for-profit area where people trust recommendations).
