Just noticed a typo domain currently sitting at £200 on DL. Would hazard a guess that the person who has bid this amount might not know as it's rather a common misspelling. I assumed DL were no longer accepting typos after the issues is caused a member here last year (thread here)

Rather confusingly the auction rules now state:-
Kindly note that we do not accept famous people's names, typos, most misspellings and obvious TM domains.

I guess "most" means that they do accept "some" but to my mind a typo and misspelling are the same thing (if you look at them objectively anyway)..... In any case I just wanted to flag this up in case anyone here has placed this bid in error.

PS: A further two (more obvious though) in Hidden Gems

I just emailed Denys about it. That should really be the first course of action before starting a public thread. I would imagine the listing is just an error that slipped through.

It's not a one off error as there's three typo domains currently listed between the main page and Gems, the issue had also been raised before.
Perhaps I should have emailed him yes but my first thought was to the poor person who may have unwittingly bid

When domain names have advanced bids they are automatically showcased on the front page without moderation once the auction is live.

I think there is a difference, for example misseplling is a typo and mispelling is a misspelling
I mean one is a slip of the fingers on the keyboard, the other is not knowing the correct spelling.

Bruce

There are a few typos on there currently - and I don't it's a positive thing for DL

True....but if you see a word that has been typed wrongly you have no way of knowing if the persons finger slipped or if they didn't know the correct spelling and thought they were spelling it correctly - In other words it's not a helpful (clear or categorical) distinction for the purposes we're talking about here.

Agreed.

It's like when I see misspellings listed for sale on Acorn without any indication that they're not the correct term. I am t-h-i-s close to posting about it (and sometimes I do) but there's the awkward "no comments on sales threads" rule.

I believe that misspellings can be legitimate sales if they're misspelled pure generics and VERY CLEARLY MARKED AS INCORRECT. Otherwise not.

To be fair to Denys, the "misspelling" at £200 is also the correct spelling of a word.

Fair point - I stand corrected on that one - it would win as a word on Countdown at least! I think it's reasonable to assume most people would have in mind the popular definition of the word though (The other two I referred to certainly appear to be straight typo/ mistakes).

Anyway, I don't want this thread to sound like I'm having a go at Denys - I think Domainlore is a great site. I agree with what Edwin said that there's nothing wrong with advertising misspellings if they're labelled as such. Equally there's nothing wrong if there's a clear "buyer beware" message stating that all typos and misspellings are allowed and that it's up to the buyer to check. It just struck me that the "rules" come across as rather fuzzy here which leaves a potential buyer in a rather vulnerable position if they bid in error and realise too late. Hopefully he might clarify things a bit further as that's all that's really needed.

Maybe the buyers are aware its a comman miss spell although still willing to pay good money for it, if you look at some of the recent 3 letter sale prices alot were well below £200.
