Wanted: Domain Domain wanted help

There is a domain I have wanted for a long time. I have the org version and didnt realise about the UK level so didn’t have the co.uk and it went to the .org.uk who never registered it

Fasthosts took the domain when it became available and I kept an eye on it and it went to suspended. It was due to drop 10th September but a day or so before it was re-registered

it’s not redirecting to the org.uk site and has in the last day started showing an ad page. It is tagged as LIVeDOMAINS. I am kind of wondering if it is not the same owner but that shouldn’t have happened should it? If fasthosts didn’t get the original owner to take it it should have been capturable? But it never dropped

It’s not. I don’t think, a valuable domain, But I wanted it for a few years

any advice on any way on if it is possible to buy it?

No need to disclose the domain name, but has it been actually re-registered or renewed? i.e. What is the creation date as per the current WHOIS?

PM the domain and I'll take a look.

Judging by the whois output, it was a Fasthosts renewal, so chances are someone else had their eye on it. It could also be the current owner renewed it, but knowing the domain will help better determine what's happened.

But fasthosts said the site would drop off and it was suspended. Are you saying they didn’t allow the site to drop off and sold it to someone before?

that sounds really dodgy. Have PM’d

If you have pm'd @dropped.uk the name I am sure you will receive all of the information you need. The domain is unlikely to just drop and will probably be caught and if you haven't backordered you will end up needing to buy it.

I’m having a look through the thread now and talking to dropped.uk and have now emailed nominet as it feels dodgy to me

maybe the person who has RoR did renew a day before drop, but something feels off. Even more so now I’ve read about the fasthosts issue. Then grabbing every .Uk when they should have dropped already made me mad a year ago, it not dropping like promised is even more distasteful

did any fasthosts owned domain drop?

I saw ultra.uk magically renewed too and points to fasthosts...

Judging from the domain, it's genuine. Domain only has value to the person who wants it. Interestingly, it was backordered with multiple catchers, and was subject to a Fasthosts renewal.

It was a contested domain, so If you didn't have it booked by a catcher then you would have had 0% chance of hand regging it anyway.

It’s not an engineered thread
I had it registered with 3 different catchers and none caught it as it was renewed before it dropped so not sure why you think it is an engineered thread and/or contested?

I did try and register dragon.uk with a few drop catchers too, that one dropped and I missed out. This one is basically nothing special but I didn’t want to put the domain name in case it created an interest and potentially push the prove out of my reach. Maybe I am overthinking!

I have given the domain name to @dropped.uk as theirs was one of the catchers I tried along with drop catcher, and domainjunky. But as it never dropped I didn’t have the chance

the co.uk equivalent was free for the last year at least and I registered it today, I just wanted the .uk

I have contacted nominet. So we shall see.

Nominet say no issues seen, I was being overly optimistic!

So, looks like very last minute renewal from the RoR. Active website so have contacted him to see if he would want to sell the .Uk

so we shall see. Not totally hopeful to be honest but want to try.

Be interesting to have confirmation from the rights holder that he decided to take the domain on the last day after having 6 years to do so.

Well yes... I could have contacted him at any time during the 6 years I know but was kind of hoping it would naturally drop off given it wasn’t being taken!

It wasn’t the last day. The last day was the 10th I believe and it was renewed on the 8th. As far as I could see it didn’t drop at all. It is showing as current registration ending in July 21 which I believe reflects that

The domain I was after is andysworld.uk
Just hoped I’d be able to catch it this time but it’s now pointing to an ad site with no clear way to try and buy it unfortunately

It looks as though you played the waiting game, to obtain the name for the registration fee only...!!

That's a dangerous game to play - for a domain name that you've been after for 6 years...!!

If someone noticed your regular check, they will have known someone wanted the name - and have speculated the registration fee themselves - in the hope that you REALLY want the domain name...!!
