domain transfer

Can someone advise? if im buying a .co.uk domain from someone and they dont have a nominet logon for their domain, how do they go about transferring the domain to me?

Reset the password, and use the Online Services to start a domain transfer.

If they know the admin email address associated with the domain (usually the same email address associated with their account at whatever registrar) they can do a password reset here:

If they don't now the email address they will probably have to call Nominet and ask them what it is.

Thanks. Things get more complicated now.
the owner says they have no idea what email address relates to the domain. The domain whois shows them as the registrant but the address appears to show a registrar whom they have never heard of or dealt with?
also they say they haven't updated the registration in years yet whois shows as last updated as a year ago.
So it appears to me that the registrar automatically renewed it.
Does it still belong to the seller though? if it shows their name as the registrant but an address of a registrar can the seller still sell it to me?

He is still the legal owner if his name is in the registrant field, regardless of what address is there.

He will really need to ring Nominet and try and find out what email address is associated with the domain. If it's one of his addresses he will be able to do a password reset.

If it's not he can go through the pain in the arse of 'reestablishing his identity' with Nominet:

Better still, re-establish your identity with the Registrar for free, then have them change the tag to yours.

They you can complete your own transfer by simply changing the Admin email address and actioning the transfer yourself.

What a nightmare! Been in negotiations for a domain for ages, sale agreed, they can't remember their details for transfer, The registrant name is ABC LTD
They are ABC LTD, however the registrant address shows as etype media.

I tell them to do a re-establish identity and whilst waiting for them I had a look at the wayback and the domain was owned by ABC MARKETING LTD totally different compnay. So been negotiating with a company that doesn't even own the domain!

and ABC MARKETING LTD shows as disolved and nominet says etype media are the current owner? do they make this all up?

ABC MARKETING LTD shows as currently active on companies house.

ETYPE MEDIA LIMITED shows as dissolved....

Sorry ABC LTD was an example name. Etype was a real one though.
I'm now on the hunt for the OTHER owner.......
