Is it acceptable for domain registrars to bypass the natural drop by hoarding names its customers registered and allowed to lapse.

This is an issue that has bothered me for many years now. Surely this is a conflict of interest and somewhat unfair.

On the other hand UK and European domain registries tend to level the playing field for all to be in with a shot.

I was not aware of that happening in the UK market, surely that must breach nominets T&Cs.

In fact how would they be able to do it considering how the ownership of UK domains work.

It's in their terms and conditions at the time of registration.

This is a response from Nominet posted on the forum a year ago, not sure where they're at with it:

Hello xxxxxx

Yes, I realise this is taking some time.

The issue we have is that Dynadot's T's & C's cover this practice, and in doing this they do not infringe on our T's & C's.

We now have to decide if this is a policy matter, and changes made to our constitution.

It is sitting with our legal team now and proposals being discussed, I have sent an email today asking where we are with this and as always will keep you informed when I know something.

That is a bad precedence to be honest it most certainly does undermine the good faith to which Nominet claim to provide as it gives an unfair advantage.
