Domain name expired, how do I obtain it?

There's a domain i would like to purchase, it expired two days ago and the current status of it is: Renewal required. How long do I have to wait before i can register it myself? What is the best way to get hold of it? I've heard of domain catching, not quite sure how it works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Add 92 days to the renewal date, i.e. if it expired on the 18th of July then it will "drop" on the 18th of October.

You can either:

a) Approach the current owner and try to purchase the name.

b) Hope it doesn't get renewed and nearer the time book it with a public catcher or find a private catcher to try to grab it for you on the "drop" day.

c) Pray it's not on anyone elses radar and hand register it on the 18th when you notice it is available to register (anytime between midnight and midnight).

If it's a half decent domain then the probability is that if it doesn't get renewed then someone else will be after it.
