Without a catching service you stand zero chancxe if someone else is after it.
Try caught.co.uk or dropsystem.co.uk to catch it for you.
The chances of a name dropping, that will drop not being on a list is around 97% at a guess. I'm sure some do slip through or get deleted early but rare.
The chances of any quality decent generics being left are 00.001% as if personal knowledge doesn't fill the gap, then a traffic scan and google usually does. However the more technical and the more old fashioned a term, the stats increase ten fold.
Your best bet is to book it with a public catcher, cover all bases as they say but in doing so you'll show that there's interest in the name but doing the same check will see if others are interested as a gauge, so next step book it with a private catcher, ones you can trust because some you can't.
If someone sent you a PM from this forum saying:
"Which domain is it and i'll give you a fair idea. I use public catchers nothing private and have a few names coming my way so i can tell you whether or not i think it would be something others would go for".
Should I be naive and pass them the details?

Mark,
Try contacting the current registrant. Word your approach correctly, have an offer in mind, and go for it. If highlighting to them that it is about to drop, and they then decide to re-register it, then so be it. You're not here to consider that this spoils it for anyone else, this is a cut-throat game.
Also will a hyphenated domain be alot less sought after?
keyword-keyword.co.uk
Thanks,
Mark

If you are concerned, simply ask them if they have any bookings for the date you expect it to drop, if they don't have any bookings for the day, then you should be quite safe if requesting them to book it for you.
Thanks, will the owner still be able to renew if it is Suspended?

If I manage to get in touch with owner of domain, whats the easiest way to get the domain transferred. Obviously he is not using the same domain registrar now as he did when he had domain (I know this because he has other domains under a different registrar now and these sites are live).
