Hi, just doing some research for my PHD.

Thank you.

I used to play football religiously until I was in my early 20's, Weak ankles and what I now think is exercise induced asthma put a stop to that. 15 years later and not having done any exercise since then, I brought a new MTB ( Was originally to take the little one for rides as a family ) but realised how much I enjoyed getting out on the bike so brought a road bike shortly after but only used it twice since its been shitty whether. I'm hoping it could turn into a nice little sport for me to unwind a little as its rare I ever relax and switch off.

I voted nothing :D

I guess it’s not “sport” but I walk a reasonable amount, averaging just over 5,000 steps/day in 2017 according to my pace counter app.

That’s certainly not huge, but it’s not sedentary either.

(For reference, I voted “Nothing”)

Used to play rugby 25 years ago :p I suspect most of us are going in the 'nothing' category

Just checking, but this isn't a very statistically valid question. Does it need to be?

Also, no golf? :D

Cheers for the reminder im a lazy knacker. I'm off to comfort eat.

The results so far are terrifying (also voted nothing, though I have a young child to keep up with, so....)

Nothing from me, but my current mission is trying to get at least two rounds of golf in a month.

6 years ago, before we had the kids, I would have been playing field hockey on a Saturday and 5 a side on one weeknight.

8 years ago, I was playing field hockey on both Saturday and Sunday, 5 a side at work most lunch times, 5 a side on one evening and occasionally some jujitsu.

Welp.

I play cricket in the summer on the weekend, it's not the most strenuous of exercise (have answered accordingly). I also play footie on a week day evening, I don't know what the PHD is covering, but there is a strong trend to evening football (and other sports I suppose) instead of playing sat/sun due to family and work commitments, so you may want consider that (or not) in your questions.

Those working for themselves may treat Sat and/or Sun as work days to avoid the crowds. Again, something to factor in I guess.

Where's cycling? Triathlon? I train 4-5 days a week. Keeps me sane... sort of!

Depends on time of year what the main focus is, but always a few hrs on the bike at weekends, either indoor/turbotrainer or outdoors.

I'm only now starting out with the Cycling stuff, but its a little bit addictive. At the moment I've got all the gear and no idea :D. I've not been on any big rides yet though, Felt like my legs were going to fall off after 15 miles. I don't think my averages are bad for a novice though, especially on the MTB ( 14mph average ), first ride out on the road bike the other day I done a 17mph average and it didnt feel half as intensive. Although this is over 3 - 10 miles, i can't imagine keeping that average up over 30 - 50 - 100 miles lol .

I see people on strava doing 22 - 26 mph averages which is beyond what i think ill ever get to :D

I selected squash, but I also have a weekly PT gym session, go running and climb, so you may want to factor in multiple activities.
