Years ago Tucows announced that the are sending expiring domains to Afternic.

ref: https://domainnamewire.com/2008/06/12/tucows-to-auction-expiring-domain-names-at-afternic/
.. and on the same day Andrew Alleman published "Tucows and Afternic Deal Q&A": https://domainnamewire.com/2008/06/12/tucows-and-afternic-deal-qa/

Does anybody know what is the case today with Tucows?

Their brand OpenSRS doesn't disclose much: https://help.opensrs.com/hc/en-us/articles/203858666-Domain-name-auctions.

There is another page https://help.opensrs.com/hc/en-us/articles/219390877-Aftermarket-Premium-Domains that also suggests that Sedo is also their aftermarket partner:

.. then there is some YummyNames (Tucows Portfolio business unit), that doesn't have even a website:

Also, what is the domain name redemption fee resellers pay Tucows? .. redemption fees are all over the place as well, and seem to be a wild wild west.

I don't think they have a redemption period, I've tried to renew domains at 32 days and it's already in a new buyers account and reseller/registrar says nothing they can do as its gone already as the registry tucows removed it.

:) Of course, Tucows has a redemption period.

For most domain names, their grace period is 40 days ( in this perion a name is still considered to be owned by the registrant).
If your dn wasn't .com > here is a spreadsheet of tld details: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...1lF0X2AxaIr_G5kFIqIF3LAZU/edit#gid=1203932299

Had a .com I'd paid 600 dollars for, ok not a huge amount but not the point, my own fault for not renewing and they say I had no auto renew set but when I realised I'd not renewed I went to renew and it wouldn't let me, asked could I pay the redemption fee and 20i said they couldn't as the registry tucows had taken it and it was now with godaddy registered to someone else. 'Huge' domain owner now listed at 8k

I questioned the validity of this and they replied there was nothing they could do as the registry took it.

Guys at 20i have always been great and honest so I believe them.

So to me there is no redemption period or maybe only for domains no one has bid on or they can't sell?

Quote from 20i

"Domains do not always enter redemption period, after the 30-40 day grace period they can either enter redemption or auction, given this domain has moved to GoDaddy it looks like it was auctioned and so at this point recovery is no longer possible."

 .. thank you for sharing :/ .. still, doesn't sounds right.. especially if this was a .com name and if you were late for only 32 days (not 41) :/ ...

Yes I think Tucows moved back to Godaddy auctions in 2017. Apparently they still are with Godaddy (who now own Afternic) according to their earnings call.

Also in gTLDs the registrar can decide how long the auto-renew grace period is before they push it to auction or Redemption RGP (issue delete command).

In the Enom terms (which Tucows also own) they give 30 days notice on section 10(a) should they decide to auction it.
