DNMum shutdown

Will you still be doing the occasional livestream?

Yes, and will continue publishing these at HostMaria's YouTube, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

.. little buried in work.

have great lineup for new streams.

Mariabuy and dnforum next?

;) why?

---

look, it is simple = nobody wanted using dnmum > the (stabilized) traffic was up to 5 visitors/day (0-5). A simple reality.

There is no need to maintain it, if people don't use + no need to maintain my multi-server setup (of dedicated servers that were set up for the project to be scalable almost without limits).

A simple business decision = running expenses significant / return = 0.

Does this make sense?

DNForum is awesome, and gradually the traffic is returning. MariaBuy is fine as well.

Thank you for the insights into why it failed. I am genuinely interested.

You should check out serverless infrastructure and then you can host stuff until it gains traction for pennies instead of having beefy severs sat there. Also Cloudflare let you host and stream "objects" (in R2), be they video or whatever with free unlimited bandwidth and served over their global CDN, you just pay for object (video, in this case) storage which in this use case should be minimal.

Mariabuy like dnmum shows no global rank on similarweb, and Dnforum has a worse ranking than acorn which got me thinking. I like acorn more than dnforum, always have.

How about mariacoin.com?

$Maria coin is sailing in open seas, has traction and lots of users (the case was totally opposite for dnmum). Yes, at the moment (and probably for the next 1-2 years) I will be in minuses maintaining the infrastructure - though these costs are pre-planned in my budget. .. in addition, times by times I buy out $Maria coins out of the market (without a specific plan/strategy).

but, there is Maria CX (coin exchange) that was planned. Exchange is not planned to be started soon, especially as the Summit is still in the development stage and vulnerable (as not yet fully established).
The only expenses for Maria CX are moderate accounting fees for keeping the company in good accounts: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14735584 ..

Does this help? Best! Helmuts

.. greetings from Latvia - attending Baltic Domain Days.. very impressive event!

:) I suppose you are talking about Cloud.. We need to remember that Cloud is financially sane for hosting databases, at the same time the budget killers are storage and bandwidth :) .. and, dnmum was a full video hosting platform with separate dedicated storage server (scalable), conversion server (again, scalable) and others.
If you wish to host videos (not talking about embeds) > dedicated server setups are the most cost-effective way (if you can manage the servers yourself, of course).

About MariaBuy - my holding company is a 50% owner of it and the other owner is our Felix @Admin :) .. all the questions towards the growth of it can be addressed to him :)
.. those who like to dig into company details > we are all transparent here: https://find-and-update.company-inf...any/14578478/persons-with-significant-control

Felix is busy with many other tasks (directly related to making money today), and therefore MariaBuy is a little stale.

:) any more questions?

I'll speak to this as this is what I have experience in. Regarding storage and bandwidth, that R2 solution is definitely the answer. The storage costs are extremely competitive and the bandwidth is FREE and unlimited so $0 even if you had 500 million video views.

0.015$ per GB per month for storage https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/pricing/ and first 10GB free every month.

We're not talking unlimited as in tin post host "unlimited bandwidth", were talking about Cloudflare the backbone of the internet levels of unlimited.

If you used dynamodb in AWS as a database, you would probably be talking about single figure $ a month for dnmum.
