I have just found a domain that should have dropped earlier this month, but didn't drop. The whois says the owner company is in liquidation, could this be the reason it didnt drop?

The domain is...

searchlondon.co.uk

Yes, it's quite likely that a manual hold has been placed on it to stop it from dropping.

So I imagine all other domains owned by that company have manual holds on them. Oh well.

It maybe worth doing some digging if you want the domain.

I went through a similar scenerio when I wanted to take excerpts out a book / magazine that had been printed on a high profile sporting event. The company who produced it had gone bang. I contacted the receivers and they said go head, do what you want...

I suppose in your case it would depend on how clued up the receivers are, you might get lucky ;)

I thought this wasn't allowed. It was the reason why bonavacantia stopped auctioning uk domains.

AFAIK once the company goes into liquidiation - at least for uk domains - then the contract with nominet ceases to be valid and the domain should be suspended and released accordingly.

That only applies to dissolved companies.

I believe that is if the company is dissolved. When a company is disolved it ceases to exist so the contract between it and nominet is void.

If a company goes into liquidation/administration then the company still exists.

Thanks for the link Aaron. Thats some list. I've only taken a brief first look but, I could imagine quite a bit of global interest given the Global tlds included. From a .com point of view there's some very nice domains in there

I brought a web site off these guys about 10 months a go, I was offered these domains at the time, I did make an offer which wasn't well received :)

Well found - wondered what was happening with the few I had seen. Will be contacting Nom tomorrow to ask why they are waiting like this, the domains should be paid to be renewed now or be allowed to drop. Them's the rules...

I've spoken to the liquidators, apparently there is an arrangement in place with Nominet and the domains are not going to drop.
