Personally I think this is a cracking name. It got 135 type-ins last month (it doesn't rank in Google, it's just a landing page). Between Jan 2008 and now, Namedrive gives it an RPM of £93.26, and a CTR of 37.05%.
Google keyword tool gives the following results for diaspora
UK Phrase 27,100 a month
Global Phrase 301,000 a month
UK Exact 5,400 a month
Global Exact 90,500 a month
For some reason people think this isn't a good name. I can only think it is because people don't understand what it means. Am I wrong? Do you know what it means and still think it has no value?
From Diaspora - definition of Diaspora by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
Di·as·po·ra (d-spr-)
n.
1. The dispersion of Jews outside of Israel from the sixth century b.c., when they were exiled to Babylonia, until the present time.
2. often diaspora The body of Jews or Jewish communities outside Palestine or modern Israel.
3. diaspora
a. A dispersion of a people from their original homeland.
b. The community formed by such a people: "the glutinous dish known throughout the [West African] diaspora as ... fufu" (Jonell Nash).
4. diaspora A dispersion of an originally homogeneous entity, such as a language or culture: "the diaspora of English into several mutually incomprehensible languages" (Randolph Quirk).
Definition 3 is, in my view, the main definition and how it is generally used.
Been sat on it for a few years but, after been told again that it's not a good name, I'll probably develop it now (and yes, I am a web developer, we own a number of developed income-generating sites).
I think the potential is great - ex-pats, history, genealogy, visas, travel, hotels, books etc etc
Would welcome your thoughts on both the value and potential development/uses.
Thanks
John
