Jay, have you got any up to date information on the performace of the DAC now it's been out of beta for some months?

november http://lists.nominet.org.uk/pipermail/nom-owg-dacbeta/attachments/20051007/3bdbdb8e/dac.gif

And how many queries per day http://lists.nominet.org.uk/pipermail/nom-owg-dacbeta/2005-July/000089.html

Just curious:rolleyes:

Not sure of the performance, but I think it is still around 20ms. I will check. Earlier this week it peaked at 30 million queries per day.

So the equivalent of 70 systems flat out all day and 1 query every 3 ms:rolleyes:

Helps to put things into perspective, and why it's getting harder to catch anything.

Thanks for the info

Now the next question is what are the times when it's used the least, pm me with those details ;)

only about 20 TAGS show as drop catchers (quick glance at lists of caught domains)

Alot of the tags - i.e. those that tend to register during lunch times and early evenings will probably be by registrars registering names for muggles'.

The number of regularly querying TAGs, i.e. those that are still querying in the early hours, by the looks of that graph is still 90% of them.

So say 60 TAGs flat out every day. 20 TAGs actually doing the catching.

So on average, in order to compete you need to have more than 2 of your TAGs looking for names on the database permanently, and just the one visible one doing the catching.

On prenom days, you will probably want to change some of the research tags to catching tags for some of the names as there will be quite alot of them on those days, probably too many to risk losing with just the one tag.

whisk.

I'm guessing you are referring to prenom day. Could be though that the ones with the slow systems were just too slow to catch the big names they were after, or, they were querying certain domains that didn't even drop :(
