Hi All

Just thinking aloud here, but perhaps an idea for admin, and I would like people's thoughts.

I am a bit of a futurologist, and I am always thinking about what future industries / future consumer products there might be, with a view to registering the relevant domains. I don't manage to think of things that often, but when I do, I look first at the best extensions, i.e. .com, .net, .eu, co.uk, but often the lesser extensions will remain available, because once I've got the good extensions, I don't want everything for my portfolio.

I was thinking maybe we should have some sort of tip-off club for "future" domains, like for instance the .org of a potentially good name, that are still unregistered. Maybe we could have a club for established forum members, where if a domain was registered, a small tip, say £30, was made via paypal to whoever gave out the information. Obviously people would have to know who the member's of this club really were, and there would have to be rules.

I expect other people around here also leave potentially good domains unregistered too because they're not needed by themselves.

What do people think about the idea? Any input Admin?

Or bung it in the exclusive forum, acorn buys up the science and industry mags and reads 'em every month haha, subs would be enough to pay to get someone to read 'em all. It's a good idea, could be taken one step further though.

The funny thing is, I read about something in the new scientist or in a general tech mag and the domains were regd seven years ago when they were just mere murmurs - you got to be quick, I've still one or two but they're probably no use.

Because when you think, ah new tech, you buy 'em up then you realise exisiting sites can still cater for the new product simply by changing their listing, a car is still a car is still a car.

PS: I'm a futurist as well - it's the only way I explain my dreams and thoughts of the future always believing government are doing us wrong by holding us back.

And £30 is a bit much, make it subs based. Unless it's a diamond domain £30 or £5 a month doesn't matter when the person buying it reaps £10,000 in a sale.

A tip: Don't forget the new series of Big Brother later this month - someone always registers the housemates names within seconds of them being announced on the opening night. Not sure if they ever make any money, but they will certainly get some traffic throughout the show...

I was thinking about registering a domain for the next worldcup, sadly it has already been done :(
