Hey Guys I am just getting into buying a few domains and have a few questions.

1) Should I buy domains with the view of approaching companies who maybe interested in them after I buy them?

1a) If so is there a good way to approach them?

2) is there any public domain scripts for keeping an eye on domains? I have made a bash script that seems to be doing ok but I just wanted to see if I could improve it?

Thanks in advance.

Spend as much time as you can approaching end users or you could wait a long time for them to come to you.

As for the domain script I can't help you on that sorry !

ps. I love how you made 3 questions into 2 by putting 1 and 1a ;-)

Welcome. You should buy domains you wish to develop into websites that earn income or generate alot of traffic which is pretty much the same thing.

If you do this your likelihood of generating profit is magnitudes higher than buying a domain name that you hope a particular company or individual will want. The cat's out the bag. Or go on DomainLore etc or even here. GreyHound.co.uk just went for just over 1500 quid. A toddler could sell that with a 1000percent margin with even the most half arsed development i'd imagine.

Different people approach the domain business in different ways.
As for what you should do?
I would say it depends on your business model.
If you do not have one, establish one. A model will guide your path and give you some clarity on how to proceed.

It sounds as though you are leaning towards end user sales - if that is the case, do as much reading and research on the subject as you can. A site I recently came across that might be useful is DeliveryMaker dot com (not my site). There are also some free forums with sections dedicated to the End User model.

Unless you're developing the domain into a site that has useful PR value, or good (related) traffic, you have to ask yourself why the company (to approach) wouldn't buy it directly themselves?
