I hope its ok posting.

Just want to say congratulations to Nick who's site www.finditforless.co.uk has gone live.

I tested it last week and bought 3 pairs of those gloves you use with your mobile phone and they cost me just £1.20 in total, arrived from amazon via china today, kids school friends bought theirs for £5 each.

Let's support fellow acorners web sites and if you see an opportunity to make a blog post or tweet about it, please do so.

Best of luck Nick!

Thanks very much. Wasn't expecting a thread :)

What I would say is that you sign up (it is free) as all purchases through the site then get cashback.

If people are interested, use launch14 to get £1 free credit on sign-up

Looks interesting, but there is a bit of a usability issue.

I typed in iphone 6, and since it sorted by price by default I'm getting loads of £1 usb cables etc.

So I click to show by descending price... but all that really tells me is the most expensive place to buy a phone which isn't helpful. I then need to page back through it all until phones turn into cables.

Can you code a way around that ?

Done the same with External Hard Drives, brought up a load of £3 cables so clicked off assumed there wasnt any so left. Didnt come into my mind that it would be a the end of the page lists

I agree, having a bit of an issue because I am using an already complex database system but to cut a long story short it is a nightmare. Yes I can sort it by relevancy but then it won't be sorted by price.

The system will learn slowly what people want and there is a way to over-ride searches manually but I have been battling getting rid of the crap in the results for a while with no real solution just yet.

I will try to explain more to put in the product name, rather than the product type as if you were to put say :

3tb External Hard Drive

it would find the items you want.

At the minute it works well if you search in the right way, but I can't expect users to all have training on how to use it so am always trying to find a way to make it more accurate.

For example now I have run a query on "iphone 6" the results are decent - http://www.finditforless.co.uk/search/iphone-6

It is great being able to do it after the search has happened, but I understand it is too late then which is what is being worked on :)

I suppose if you can learn fast enough then its not too bad... but the problem is most people are likely going to search for something never seen before. So they get a crap result, they never share the URL because of it, and nobody else ever again searches for that now fixed search anyway.

I really think you need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a solution that gets it right first time.

I suppose at least your current system is going to quickly search okay on major phone handsets, electrical items etc

I wouldn't say it was going back to the drawing board as such, it is more developing that further as it does need to be perfect straight off.

There are other aspects to the site rather than just the search such as the offers and the cashback. The cashback is unique compared to other places as it doesn't just have to be the user buying. They can earn cashback from posting offers on the site, signing people up and promoting.

Nice site, I like it, hats off to you, I quickly figured out to put a better description when searching and it worked perfectly.

Thanks very much. I am always working at improving the search and ideally it will get a bit more user friendly :)
