It's only happened recently but it seems more and more difficult to understand .com whois, anyway, I bought a domain off pool a while back and they do this annoying thing of ensuring the domain is kept with the registrar for three months, so you forget about a domain and they do the process all over again.

The whois for this domain has

Domain Name:
Registrar:
Whois Server:
Referral URL:
Name Server:
Name Server:
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Updated Date: 13-oct-2006
Creation Date: 20-sep-2005
Expiration Date: 20-sep-2007

Now I've contacted namescout and they tell me it's gone 21 days and has gone to an auction site but they might be able to renew it for £30. Now how come if the domain expired on 20th Sept 2006 and I had 21 days to renew (don't I have longer?) how comes it's been renewed until 20th Sept 2007 or did the said auction site catch it on 13th Oct 2006 to sell?

Is this a scam or did I lose the domain? 'kin yanks.

IMO - Your being shafted...

You have the right to renew right up to the drop...

Time it takes to fight though could cost you the name anyhow...
Something I'm sure whoever knows all too well..

PM sent about this and other....

NO DOUBT about being able to renew!!!

The £30 fee is to deter you... Seriously consider if the name is worth more...

This BS was introduced as registrars woke up to domain auctions and the fact they could churn big bucks for next to nothing...

Prior to that they would be begging you to renew all the way to the drop...

Check your whois, bet it's changed... ;)
They usually transfer to some kind of holding company in the interim...

Well the 30 days is up today, the 21 days is obviously passed, the change was on 13th, the whois dates are below, yes the domain is with a different party already and ready for auction and renewed for a year.

Not surprised it's changed hands and been 'renewed'...
Up to you if you want to exercise your right to it obviously...

Highlights an issue that domainers need to be aware of...

I just checked whois, someone else has it now, picked up where I did funnily enough, on pool. I can only blame myself. Nevermind. A bad ****ing month. Let's hope tradedoubler pull their f****** finger out of their arse and pay me soon.
