I have a keen interest in the power of citizen journalism, the middle east troubles have certainly demonstrated the power of social media, twitter and facebook could also come under this banner so I thought I would reg these:

citizenjournalists/co/uk
citizenjournalism/org/uk
socialjournalist/co/uk
socialjournalists/co/uk

No traffic too speak of at present but I feel as social media becomes more widely used for collective actions then these names might have some legs, what do you think?

I know we are all hung over but would still like to hear your thoughts on these?

You may be right, but I can't see that these terms are any improvement on "bloggers"

Best wishes for 2012

Hi Bruce Happy New Year

I take your point but I feel that the above names still have something about them as bloggers IMHO come under the umbrella but are only part of it, citizen journalists regularly comment on blogs, news sites, submit articles and video footage to news sites both local and national, You Tube, Twitter etc..

I often look at the award winning site Blottr and Oxfam have a citizen journalist section so I feel that this will evolve into something bigger.

Bloggers are relevant citizen journalists but predominately blogs nowadays for the most part are profit driven not cause or reporting driven; thats not a criticism just an observation and I feel the web is a fantastic tool for individual and collective opinion, review and reporting and that's where the above names have some value.

If I am honest and had the skills I would love to develop these into a site where anyone can upload local news stories but sadly that is beyond my skill level at the moment.

Anyway thank you for your comment and I appreciate it.

Legs for what? If you mean for making an informative site about an interesting new trend in journalism, then sure, they have legs. If you mean in terms of selling the name to someone else, then I think the lack of commerciality in these terms means they probably don't have legs.

Thanks accelerator

Yes I mean building a site around the terms rather than trying to sell them. This is the kind of thing that interests me and I am convinced this type of journalism will gain mainstream recognition in the future. I like the idea of a site discussing the genre with possible links to sites and resources that will develop over the next few years. In terms of income ?, I had a similar situation when I started to develop my welfare benefit site and that has now got a steady small Adsense income which will grow, exacts up by 1000 per month since I regged it and numerous affiliate opportunities when I have maintained the front page of G for 12 months (6 at present).

I am grateful for your response and welcome more comments!

Thanks

Aiden
