This from Cisco's blog about their iphone trademark and Apple is in my mind just pure class and shows maturity on the part of Cisco:

News@Cisco Notes: UPDATE on Cisco's iPhone Trademark

Cisco has a TM on the mark 'iphone' WO since 1998 in class 09 - Apple has an 'application pending' in the same class for the same mark.

In my mind this type of behaviour from Apple shows that when the cards are down, many of the giants in the global market will 'do as they please', regardless of Professional etiquette and the law!!!

I wish Cisco all the best and hope they win through in the end!

The way I see it, it's no different to Cisco announcing to the world that they are to make a new mp3 player and calling it "ipod".

I just can't see Apple winning in this case. Just goes to show that if you're big enough and can afford lawyers, trademarks mean nothing.

I wonder what will happen to the domain "iphone.com" as it seem's to be owned by an individual who has just put up a single image of somebody else's website. The .co.uk is owned by an AD member (I expect he's anxiously waiting for the DRS to arrive).

I like the Apple phone (perfectly good name for it), although I would rather wait until it's at least 3g enabled.

Got the swimming pool already, its the jacuzzi I need now. Creating bubbles artificially is no fun

I don't think Apple have a chance in hell of winning this case. I do believe though that there's more to it than's currently been made public and that an agreement will be reached. £400 worth of registrations give me a bias :(

The sticker on that box is a classic, do lawyers really believe that people are so stupid.

You can imagine it in Cisco HQ:

'shit shit shit we dont have the name or TM anywhere.... bob go print one out quick!'

its even written in Helvetica. Nice one lads :)

...Interesting - no mention of the European TM:

Trade marks - find by number

...An interesting bit:

Apple is currently suffering from the old "posession is nine tenths of the law rule." Actually, in this case, that should be "domestic US posession."
...I keep fogetting the US is the center of the universe and nothing outside of that matters - it's that darn pesky rest of the world thingy - EU, what's that. ;)
