I've read through the posts on what's required for dropcatching i.e. script etc... But what do you ideally need to run it on to compete? From 1mb broadband on your home pc? to dedicated server running......?

Would appreciate any assistance on the dark art!

u can use a script, but there are far better ways to get expired domains than that old hat.


I would'nt expect much advice on domaining as its their bread and butter....

Contacting the owners before they drop are being used by some catchers.

hmmm

i was want to post this method and share info as this is a friendly forum with lots of experienced domainers and we can all benefit from shared knowlege, but the trouble is there are few people who I just cant stand reg'ing domains because there just squatters hoping for a quick buck, and for that reason im hesitant to say.

Doesn't that end up as a bidding war as surely everyone chases the same ones and the previous owner thinks "this must be worth something?"

At the end of the day most of UK dropcatching is done using the DAC?

Since Nominet now allow you to add and change ip addresses to the DAC online:

The ip addresses could be anywhere?

So you could have a Linux box on your static ip at home.
Or you could give an ip of a server hosted in data centre or even with DAC Hosting

The less hops and time it takes to get to Nominet's servers then the more chance you have:

However I think this is a bit of a oldskool way now (used to be effective) there must be other ways to increase your advantage? I would look at queuing your PGP emails or even a faster script like ruby on rails?
