Can you trust you affiliate?

just wondering what steps people take and weather you can trust your affiliate to honestly say weather someone buys something from them after being on your site?
how do we know if they dont just pocket it for themselves and actually honour you cookie with your id in?

You can check your headers and such to see if your ID is there, and you can also sample buy to see if they come thru, if you want to try and test yourself.

However it wouldn't take long before someone sniffed them out and named and shamed them.
