Hi all

I'm currently considering selling my business directory site.

Some Stats:
stats.gif

Pages indexed in Google: 144000 <link>
Pagerank 4

'URLtrends' analysis: <link>
Current Rankings:
PageRank: 4/10
Alexa Rank: 7,128,162

Incoming Google Links: 4
Incoming Yahoo Links: 2,592
Incoming MSN Links: 0
Incoming Alexa Links: 8
Overall Incoming Links: 2,604 (Overlap is possible - Estimated 2,592 unique links)
Outgoing Links: 40 (Ratio: 0.100% - Each Link Receives Approx. 0.085 PR)

Site is custom coded (by me)
Runs on PHP & MySQL

There are currently 54163 entries for 44887 business listed over a total of 325 categories.

Assume no revenue although there has been some via affilliate links/adsense/listing upgrades.

Offers welcome via PM
Any questions by post or PM

Hi

All custom coded by hand. At the moment, I am not planning to sell the code seperatly as I feel it helps keep the site unique.

If I don't sell the site, I might put some time into tweaking the code a bit with a view to selling, but not at the moment. (unless, of course, a nice big offer tempts me:p )

Hi fred.. are these entries imports, self generated or company submissions?..
and do you have a mailing list for all entries...

cheers Steve

Most have been sourced from other directories, a fair number have been user submitted. All have been entered by hand individually.

There is no mailing list as such.

OK, have again been asked for a BIN price so we have decided to set it at £20,000.

Offers will be considered.

£20,000  thats alot for a site that has no revenue !

They wanted a BIN so I gave them one! As I said, offers will be considered.

Bear in mind though that:

Pages indexed in Google: 144000
at £20,000, that's less than 14p per page

There are currently 54163 entries for 44887 business listed over a total of 325 categories.

at £20,000 that's 37p per individual entry entered by hand

Assume no revenue although there has been some via affilliate links/adsense/listing upgrades.

and there has been revenue, just I can't tell exact enough figure as I didn't set the affiliate links with unique tracking. Fair enough it's not going to be worth £20,000 by current revenue alone, but the amount of time and work that has gone into the site means we would rather not sell the site at all than to sell cheap. ;)

Hi Fred,

What degree of contact have you developed with the listed companies? Are they all aware they are listed, and have you contacted them to highlight what you can offer them?
From a commercial perspective, what is there to show that the current enhancements to their membership (so a charge could be levied) have been successful?

Cheers,

programmer.

Thanks.

Across the whole database, how many (percentage wise) would you say you have the email addresses of?

(sharp intake of breath!!)

Yikes, that's quite a bit of snail mail work!

I'm sure somebody who was willing/able to do a sales/marketing push would get a fair number of upgrades.

I wouldnt count on it. Most companies get bombarded with entries to sites such as this on a daily basis and I would guess all end up in the bin.

Ive found that unless your site offers something that others dont, then you wont get them to part with any cash.

I can see any value in the site itself, why are directories priced so highly? I wouldn't ask for 4 figures for reading-guide.com and that makes a nice incoming from Adsense.
