Typically I work on sites where the domain has been registered for years. However, I recently started working on a domain that dropped a couple of months back. I have been trying to get it to rank for a reasonably popular term, and so far I seem to have had zero luck in getting it to rank anywhere for the term, or for any other term really. I'm putting 'some' of this down to the domain being very recently registered. Would you say that there's typically a period of time when the age of the domain stopsimpeding a site, or impedes it less at least (6 months, a year?).

Sounds strange, I don't see why you wouldn't start ranking within a couple of weeks. It's definitely indexed right, and there are no penalties from the previous owner? Also, have you done a backlink analysis?

Thanks for the reply. There are a fair few backlinks, but only recently. I think things still might be settling down, hopefully at some point soon this won't be an issue. How would I check if there are previous penalties?

Well, yes, if I type in the URL for instance. The pages are all indexed too. I think it might be a case of me being impatient. I might bump this in a month if nothing has changed and get a few more ideas. Usuaully things eventually pan out okay, I just don't like waiting :).

EDIT: Oops, didn't see your post fish. I'll bump this up in a month if things aren't working out, rather than do into more details now. Until then I'll stop moaning :).

The keywords you're targeting may be more competitive than you think then. I registered a domain a month ago yesterday and it's on page 1 for some of the terms I'm tracking, and page 9 or better for the others.
