Is being linked to from an exact match domain something that's useful seo-wise? For instance if I run bobsbooks.co.uk and books.co.uk decides to link to me would I get more of an ranking boost than if another site with a similiar link profile linked to me?

You'll get a better boost from a relevant topic site and especially from a relevant site that ranks well in itself, as opposed to a link from copperkettles.co.uk which has nothing to do with books.

Thanks for commenting. Yes, I certainly agree.

I guess the core of what I'm musing over, is whether an exact match bonus can in a sense be partially passed on. By that I mean if a site ranks moderately better due to being an exact match, and they link out to another site targetting that term, would that enhancement in a sense be partially passed on? I assume in a small way that it would. Of course there aren't all that many opportunities to get one way links from exact match sites, but that's a different issue really.

No, there is no exact match benefit passed on - in fact I think given that most exact match domains have weak backlink profiles and survive largely on their ranking for that one keyword chances are you'll get less value than getting a link from any other site that sits in a similar position in the search results for whatever topic you are targetting.

I meant more from a perspective of everything else being equal (backlink profile etc) but where the domain is an exact match. In that scenario that exact match domain would in all likelyhood rank higher. I'm not saying that the exact match bonus would directly pass on, more wondering whether it indirectly would due to the site ranking higher.

Hi newguy,

So anchor text could play a big part here (ok I know the weight given to anchor text is getting less and less), but 2 sites on books both have 1000 links on the same pages.

Of those links a third have the web address as the anchor text so sites and links being

www.bobsbooks.co.uk
www.books.co.uk

And you want to rank for the term "Books" there could be big difference in some situations and I believe due to the natural anchor text given in the exact match domain it could in turn in some situations give more trust and value to your site for the term books.
