Are 2 sites better than 1?

If you have 2 killer keyword domains ranking at 1 and 2 for your intended audience keywords is it better to have 2 sites up or 301 from one domain to the primary?

Thoughts anyone?

I would have two seperate sites both with unique content and design.

You holding position 1 and 2 leaves one less space for a competitor to appear on the first page of Google meaning more potential traffic for your product or service.

Gold Frog gets my vote. Provided the content is unique you should do very well.

Depending on the niche and how lucrative it is why not aim to get more sites on page one.

Make the second site look like a complete different company and have a different price structure, one a little less cheaper than the other.

Yes i would myself then add keyword links to main site.

Deffinately get different ip's at a minimum otherwise the interlinking between them would be near to pointless. Also if you seo'd them both up well on the same ip address google would spot this and only allow one of them to be high in the serps for a single term (most of the time, otherwise they see it is spamming). I call it ''carpet bombing'' where you try and dominate a whole page / top 3 on google for a keyword/phrase.

Why only have 42.30% google search ctr when by taking all the top 4 you could have 68.69%...

(remember each domain can normally hold 2 spots each on the homepage - excluding uncompetitive keywords & sitelinks )

A great site can take position 1 with sitelinks & position 2 by itself, one of my better sites has the first 7 results, no harm in having another site in there if you have enough resources but I'd prefer a main authority site with no.1 ... sitelinks & no.2
