I'm new to the domain game and I was thinking of trying it as a hobby or business opportunity. I noticed that audiodealer.co.uk had been sold for £9,000 in April, so when I found that videodealer.co.uk was still available I registered it on the chance that it might be worth approximately the same.

It seems too good to be true that I can register a name for a few quid and then perhaps sell it for thousands, and my first reaction is to say "What's the catch?". But I'm going to keep an open mind until I learn more about this business, just in case I really have discovered a genuine opportunity.

So is audiodealer.co.uk's sale price of 9k a genuine guide to what I can expect to get for videodealer.co.uk? Or are there other factors affecting the price that I may not yet have learned about?

I appreciate that the only way to be sure is to park it and advertise it on a site like Sedo to see what happens, but I'd like to get the opinions of some experienced members before I decide whether to start trading in domain names now or wait until I've gained more info about the business. So can any of you tell me what you think videodealer.co.uk is really worth?

I think audiodealer fetched that high price, if reported accurately, because of the trade in top-end hifi audio gear - some of the equipment prices are mega.

Video equipment doesn't have quite the same following, to my belief, so your domain name mightn't be of such a high value.

The price for audiodealer does show just how hit and miss valuing can be. I am just a starter in this lark, but £9k seems very high for that domain name. But somebody was prepared to pay it, apparently.

Good luck, Luke

overture count gives you an indication of the difference between the two domains
searches for audio dealer: 859
searches for video dealer: 27

the results for audio are a lot more relevant too. On the same figures (not that this works :D) you should be looking at £270

I think that 9k sale was a lucky hit - dealer is one of them words you can tag onto anything sportsdealer etc and not the best either.

the names ok but dont hold out for 10k

welcome

Many thanks Luke and Charlie for your appraisal of videodealer.co.uk.
I'm still learning but I hope to start trading soon.

Will.

Having had a video business some years ago I can tell you video is dead, some people still refer to it though as video when they mean something else like film or DVD etc.

IMHO if you can get your money back, take it;) but you never know stranger things have happened in the domain market so there's always hope.

Maybe someone will set up a site selling all those old videos that no one wants anymore and your name would be ideal:)

Good luck with it though

Paul
