Wanted: Domain Appraisal Appraisal - Major Cities/Resorts Hotels in .me extension

Hi Everyone,

I took a punt and bought up a load of .me world cities and resorts' hotels.
They all have pretty huge search volumes and was thinking that perhaps they could be sold as a job lot to a travel agents for example.

What are people's views on the likely direction of .me values and the potential value of this portfolio.

I know it's a difficulty one to quantify but just wondered what people's thoughts are. See list below.

Steve, I think it's too early to say. What I would suggest is that you have made wise registrations as a punt with this extension - how it will all pan out remains to be seen; probably in a few years. Anyway, as I say, it's what we do - have a punt on a new extension - good luck to you but I wouldn't buy any more for the moment.

Really appreciate your advice. I have one more in mind to give a nice round 25hotels, then as you say I'll probably look to keep them for the long haul (pardon the pun!).

I'm with azooza on this one Steve and I have experience of the travel and leisure industry on and offline.

I was here with bookitall 4/5 years ago its a hard market to crack and its all sown up. While I think the .me works for some niches I dont think it this one - sorry.

City/hotel.me might stand a chance, the plurals have no chance. But I wish you well.

hotel.me is coming up for auction soon and it should get low xx,xxx

kiss.me went for $20k, and buy.me for less at $17.5k better than kiss imho and the top selling .me so far - Date.me a cool $70k

Ditto dont buy anymore.

I've checked out the site funk.me for selling .me domains but it seems strange that the only ones with big bids ie macauhotel.me ($10500) are owned by the siteowner.

cannot see this extension getting anywhere,not for a specific country with a lot more extensions due end of the year it will be saturated and have you noticed the price of these new extensions,i reckon we should create our own and earn a fortune,so this has become a money making exercise the same with .tel....

Yes, I was reading about these new extensions. They must surely present a threat to all of this - .com's & .co.uk's aside.

Well. if anyone wants to make me an offer for the hotels, I'd certainly consider them..

It never hurts to 'dip a toe' in any of these waters. A small investment in any new TLD is part of the way folk in this business operate. I remember a time when it would have appeared daft to register a .org, let alone a .org.uk. I must remember to check and see if cctld.museum is available.

Having said that, I think people are a lot wiser now and the .mobi debacle has sent out a stern warning about over-speculation. Chuck £100 at anything you think might have potential, and see how it pans out. I've picked up a few 2- and 3-letter domains via idotz.net which is one of my favourite registrars for this type of thing.

Yes, my own experience was dabbling in the .gone shares debacle. I got on one at 17p and got out at about a pound, having convinced myself there was nothing in them.

They went to £19 !.....I was eventually proven right with the bubble bursting but it certainly cost me to have the satisfaction of knowing I was right all along ! !!

In that game timing is everything and I'm beginning to see there's an element of that here too.

Certainly worth rolling the dice, in a 50:50 shoot.

Just not the mortgage !

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your .me's - but I'm biased cos I bought a load late last year. I also saw the xxxxhotel's doing well on funk.me and got

I think I got one offer after I first added them to funk.me - I think it was $200 for HotelPrices.me - I probably should have snapped their hand off!

When all the furore dies down about buy.me, sell.me etc. I just worry that the .me's only work for cheeky little hacks and not much more...Hope I'm wrong..

Jon, when you applied to funk.me how long did you have to wait to get approval ? ? I've written to [email protected] 4 times in the last week but no reply..

I think you've made a wise investment, but you will have to be patient. If you plan on developing them yourself, then it was definitely a good investment. The main question is whether there will be any problem ranking them ... I doubt there will be ... but you need to establish this. As usual, development is the more profitable solution. A sale may take a long time ...

Hi Steve

As others have said, .me has potential depending on how well some of the big keywords get developed and how popular they become. I read some advice somewhere (I've only been domaining for a few months) that obscure extensions are only worth buying if you can get really top keywords, and even then it's a gamble - so buy a few perhaps, but limit your exposure (I recently got trading.mp )

I got approved on funk.me very quickly but that was last year when he was promoting the site heavily. I've read on NP that it's taken about a week and 4 emails for people to get approved

Yea, if you develop the sites (maybe try Whypark) let me know and we can at least swap links

The shares comparison is an interesting one, but in my opinion, domain names are much better investments than shares. For a start, your maximum loss is relatively limited in comparison to shares.
