Hi All,

I've got an offer of 10k in on the above - which I think maybe low-ball, but the problem is what's right-ball?

Any opinion from the usual suspects appreciated (was tempted to post this in the Exclusive section - but would have been somewhat of an abuse of that section I suspect).

Cheers, Nick.

I'd take the £10k - period on that one. Good luck!

Laser technology is a huge field it is used everywhere, engineering, construction, surveying, printers, surgery, navigation...

This is a very desirable name and I'm tempted to make a higher offer but I doubt we would ever get around to developing it, on top of current projects.

For someone with a spare £10k+ to invest I think laser is a good buy, and a real opportunity to add value.

I think much more than 10k more like 25-30k should be the price on this domain name.

It's a cracker that. Laser's have so much more to give us yet - HOLD ON TO IT!

be careful. 10ks a good offer. If the domain cost u peanuts then I'd be tempted.

Its all very well holding on for a 20+k offer but you may have to wait 5 years..
who knows you may never get another offer like that again then it'l be sat roting in your portfolio.

do you really plan to develop it...?

If it didn't cost you much to buy flip it.

That is certainly the worst way of valuing a name i have ever heard..

Working in the fibreoptics industry, i know something about the application of lasers in that sector, and whilst the word in itself sounds great, it is often referred to in an expanded manner, for example 'laser diode', laser module', etc. If i were to choose, i'd probably prefer the former of the two examples as a singular and a plural. However, if you then looked up these:
laserdiode .co.uk
laserdiodes .co.uk
.. you would find that the first one is currently suspended ready to drop, and i'd much rather have that than yours if i were to look to secure a traffic domain name.

There are specialist companies i know who deal in all things laser, but they have very well established trading names already, and the laser market is very competitive, although to be fair, the telecoms sector is going through a revival at the moment, and lasers are in high demand. However, like in any industry, there are high quality, stable & reliable lasers, and there are cheap sh1te lasers, and most of us know the good stuff, and always avoid the sh1te. If someone has offered you 10k for it, i'd take it mate, as they're going to have to successfully promote the name, and back it up with a quality product worth buying.

You could contact these guys..
Laser2000
..to see if they'd be interested, but other than that, grab the money & run!

You’re missing my point.

If you reg a domain for £6 and get offered 10k, then regardless of YOUR perceived potential value that’s still a great ROI.

Of course the above is all relative to the domain in question, how many offers you've already hat etc. If I picked up sex/co/uk on drop for £6 then no I would NOT sell it for 10k.

If you think that laser/co/uk (or your beloved domain) is worth £100k+ then great, hold out, offer it for 50k, maybe you’ll get that, maybe not - maybe you'll lose the deal forever.

In the end it’s only worth what someone will pay for it... and you found that out recently

That is certainly the worst way of valuing a name i have ever heard..

Hi Chaps -

Thanks for the sage advice: I'd valued it at a few thousand above £10k myself, and it feels like a name that has a bit more in it - not a massive amount, but enough to make me wait...so I've respectfully declined the offer as I expect I'll get a bit more for it within a year or two.

Cheers, Nick.
