I ordered and paid for 3 domains on 20/8...2 reg at once [couk ] but other .com still to be reg...still available....does anyone have email address that would result in answer....their support..auto answer...then zilch....last 5 days.....z

I had enough of 123 and switched to ukreg, instant registration, no problems so far.

I'm now slowly moving all my domains away just before they need to be renewed, I've also advised all my clients to do the same, and many have.

I've been with 123-Reg since when they almost started and they've always been great but since Pipex took over they have turned in to quite possible the worst UK internet company, mainly for two reasons: their domain registering and renewal software occasionally doesn't work which is totally inacceptable, but more importantly is that they don't seem to have a working Customer Service Department, i.e. everything is ignored.

I was told by somebody recently who spoke to them directly by phone that they only have five people working there and that they got completely swamped by the .eu debacle and just couldn't cope with it (thankfully I managed to get a full refund but I believe some people are still waiting).

It's a shame really because they were once a great company. It's probably a good lesson to other companies on how not to treat their customers.

That realy doesn't surprise me. I was shocked when I got a phone call from them. I had sent them dozens of support requests but what I got back from them was always nothing to do with my actual requests. They also had a smell of pasted from a template style replys, to the extent that one of them they forgot to fill the blanks and left XXX's in the mails.
When I did get the phone call it was too little too late. The bloke at the other end was friendly and apologetic (I'm not surprised after the threatening letter I sent) and as soon as he fixed the problems with their CP I transferred everything out.
I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying a quid or two more a year for improved support, or slightly more expensive hosting packages to compensate. Although saying that Pipex's hostin arm (Webfusion) is no better. Broke their own terms and conditions by not compensating me for the excessive downtime (usually 2 - 4 hours a day).
I hope their ADSL arm isn't as crap :)

this week, 2 domains havnt appeared in my control panel, and
one does, and ive been charged for, that i they never managed to register!

I just sent this message to their customer support. I never thought I'd say it but this might be the end of the road for 123-reg for me...

intranethost.co.uk dropped this morning so I tried to register it at 123-reg.

When I got to the final confirmation screen I got the message "Unlucky - The domain intranethost.co.uk has only just been registered by someone else!"

So I sat there for a few minutes watching the WHOIS and it remained unregistered, then I tried again on 123-reg and got the same failure message.

Then I watched it some more and it remained unregistered, and eventually signed up for an account at ukreg and successfully registered the domain.

It seems that your system works less well than it used to. At least it is bad for you and not bad for me, it just means I will use your services less if I can't register available domains with you.

[I don't know if you care, but I've got 638 domains registered at 123-reg...]

Hi,
why is anyone regging tlds with british registrars? they rip you off big time. 1 and 1 have a two tier system too, that's a disgrace. if you are UK customer you pay double or more than a 1 and 1 US customer.
Reg. with Godaddy for top level domains. Cheap as chips, instant regged & instant whois. I've had to deal with them over phone about transfers. I know it means ringing US (it was a one of). The bloke was a legend & they're there 247! Still cheaper than ringing 123 in notts!
I'm sticking with 123 for .co.uk domains, just 'cos it's better the devil you know. I know their failings & haven't had any probs of late. If they get worse (which is hard to envisage) i will move.
I just find 123's free webpage & instant builders are cracking gromit!
They have to wake up though to the pr problems, it must get back to the boss man, surely!!!!
Cheers, Predator

I've stopped using 123-reg now, as they are piss poor. I have sent over 4 support requests since pipex took over, and not one was answered within a week!

In regards to TLD's, I would echo what predator says. I use enom, and have a v good account with them which allows me to register domains a LOT cheaper than 123-reg ;)
