Ordered a book yesterday afternoon on Amazon. It's just been delivered by DPD.

DPD were the first to offer one hour delivery windows (I remember Peter Jones talking about this on Dragon's Den ahead of its introduction) and now they deliver seven days a week.

Yeah, sure do, both DPD and Interlink (same company, owned by Geopost) offer this service. I have a large corporate account with Interlink and so received our rates for this service recently. Is quite a lot (doubt much for Amazon though) but will be worth it for some.

Yes it's the likes of Amazon that make the service viable so unlikely they pay any premium.

Can you now explicitly choose DPD as the delivery firm? One of the problems with Amazon (generally very happy with them and I'm a big customer) has/had been that delivery is a real lottery - you could get a reliable company like DPD, or a terrible company like some of the other firms Amazon uses.

I don't think you can choose, but everything Amazon sends to me comes via DPD or Royal Mail if it is a very small item. In bigger towns and cities I think Amazon still use a range of companies (keeping them all on their toes!).

Until a few years ago, everything came via Yodel who were also excellent in this area to be honest. That was when they employed drivers directly and the guy that came here was fantastic at his job. The lose of Amazon business seemed to coincide with the change to self-employed drivers and since then it is always DPD who deliver here.

Still no option to choose and Amazon have courier agreements with most of them. On Prime, I've had orders with guaranteed next day arrive via DPD (great!) but at other times via normal post where Amazon take a calculated risk that it will arrive on time.

Any time a parcel arrives late on Prime, go online and complain and you will get your Prime extended by a month ;-)

Oh I know, but it was more the point that ultimately (whether on Prime or not), you pay for an express delivery and they at times send via first class post which isn't acceptable, even if they fluke it and it arrives on time ;)
