AfterNIC has announced it is no longer accepting adult domain listings:

'After extensive consideration, we have decided to no longer accept domain names that promote hate, sex, obscenity or self-destructive behavior, such as substance abuse, violence and gambling. The sole rationale behind our decision is to make Afternic a more comfortable site for mainstream domain name shoppers, especially small business owners. We recognize that taking a leadership role on this issue may have a negative financial impact on our business in the near term. Nonetheless, we believe strongly that it's the right thing long-term decision for our industry and Afternic.'

I applaud Afternic's decision to remove adult domains. For a long time we've been trying to get adult filters introduced on ppc ads and I'm sure they're right that mainstream domain shoppers and small business owners don't want to see adult domains appearing on ad feeds (often for totally unrelated non adult key words) and in general auctions. The other day we sold a very nice niche insurance domain on Sedo auctions. I contacted various insurance companies and intermediaries that specialised in that area of insurance and was expecting much interest, but the domain went for just £9 above the very low reserve/initial bid. The domain immediately alongside ours in the auction was something like penis......com. That can't have helped the sale of a very nice insurance domain. I will certainly look into Afternic's services and would be interested to hear whether anyone on the forum has had any dealings with them. They may well have a 'negative financial impact' from this decision but God bless them for their courage.

Hi,
has to be good stopping hate, substance abuse domains etc, i am sure we all agree
Why were they selling them in first place? sounds like they just shot themselves in foot advertising that fact.
Secondly, stopping sex & gambling domains! LOL Why?
Just keep strict sections for categories.
Their competitors must love that.
Shot themselves again.
Looks like Dnadult.com could be off to a flyer!!!
Cheers, Predator

Personally, I'm glad that the 'mainstream' domain places are quitting Adult.

They have NO concept of domains from the adult industry perspective.

They have been responsible for holding back this secotor for years.

You cannont value adult domains alongside non-adult names.

Sales - past and present - reflect this.
