I am newbie and wanted advice on getting a Tag-holder.


Q1) If i get a Tag and not become a member of noimnet will i have to buy domains @ £80 if i use their DAC Service ?

At the moment i am buying domains from public companies (£2.70 per domain .UK)

Q2) HOW MUCH WILL A DROP CATCHING SCRIPT COST ME ?

A1: Yes you will have to pay £80 for domains if you are just a tag holder (and not a member). However you cannot use the DAC unless you are a member - so if you want to dropcatch properly then you've got virtually no other option than to become a full Nominet member and also subscribe to the DAC.

A2: The best scripts are priceless

dropmail / tag admin is not good enough for the job.
£200 a month is probably not even good enough for the job, depending on what your expecting to catch.

correct me if im wrong by nominet membership is £400 and DAC is £25
domains will be £5 +vat (for 2 years)

No script is really worth paying for unless it's from 1 of 2 people and they wouldn't sell. Until the dropcatching procedure changes I wouldn't bother. You'd be better off paying per catch from people on here, such as aqls.

Unfortunately of late (i.e. ever) I can't even catch a decent cold.

The best commercial ones are aquanuke, RAID**, and whoeverelse you can persuade.

Netserve, ...

Maybe all catchers who sell themselves should list themselves for sale here?

**RAID is currently top catcher so at whatever price you probably wont be able to book them.

Matt - I beg to differ on your post. Most of the catchers on here have fine tuned scripts hitting nominet very quickly and sending their mails quickly too and still can't compete. There is something the rest of us are missing and if I knew what it was I wouldn't tell anyway!

We either have to wait for nominet to change the way things work or you need to solicit the owners who's domains are suspended (if you can track them down) and try and get them that way. However Whenever I've tried to do that they say oh thanks for reminding me I have to renew!
