:)

I've touched on before about Acorn becoming a more Global Forum and I admit to being one of the first to seek-out the TLD threads to give my feedback.

I just wondered how the 'Old Guard' (and indeed newer members) those that have been around Acorn a lot longer than me feel about our apparent widening membership and domain discussions. I remember some comments made a couple of years back about Acorn being a UK discussion board and reference to other boards being more suitable for TLD discussions. But, from my perspective, there did seem to be a lack (at the time) of awareness of how .co.uk domains fitted or compared to the Global picture.

Do members feel it's adding to their awareness and constructive to the development of Acorn OR detracting from Acorn as a UK focused discussion board ?

Detracting to an extent - that's what DN Forum, namepros and many other forums are for...

I've never understood the members who are pro UK on Acorn, some of the best sales are TLDs, this is a domain forum in general and not just UK extensions.

Fair comment Edwin, I'll be the first to admit that I like to focus on one domain board for my input and I do find most of the Gtld boards very flimsy (too much chaff to sort through - in the main)

I suppose I'd love to see Acorn like the old DomainState days (before the three amigos, sold up) Global but with a strong UK focus and presence

I do like coming to acorn as I can get a general value of .co.uk and there are a few nice members here.

Dn has lost it's appeal to me recently as there seems to be a lot of rubbish names trying to be sold.

Np is quite good to get a few bargains in other ctlds

Mobi market is flatlining and the forum is in a coma.

Acorn is the most professional as far as I'm concerned. :)

If you think the amount of junk threads we have to wade through is high now, that's a mere blip to the potential for endless drivel in the appraisal/sale sections if this site veers too far from its UK roots. For every get-rich-quicker newbie hopeful in the UK namespace, there are probably 1,000 in the GTLDs - and they all have names to sell, or to get "opinions" on.

I don't think it's high at the moment (not in compared to virtually every other board) one of the reasons I really like Acorndomains is that we can 'generally' be quite 'cutting' and to the point in our comments, which I think is a good thing for dissuading the chancers to move in. You don't get none of that Swooning rubbish valuations for domains on here - and if there is one it's soon cut to pieces

I also love the way many new members comment about standing-back and getting familiar with Acorn before commenting in the threads - this shows everyone in a good-light, Mostly people do take on-board Acorn isn't a playground (though I have been guilty of that myself occasionally - in Jack Daniels company)

I have always strived to keep a .UK focus here, it's my niche.

I agree with Edwin, when you go on the large US boards you get drowned in junk so I don't even bother anymore.

.UK relative TLDs are still interesting, as long as the quality is good.

I think on here, less is more.

After DomainState was sold (not an owner) and a break my new home was here. I do not frequent other domain forums. I tend to like the way this forum looks, it is old school.

Thanks Admin - I did value your thoughts most, but it seemed a bit presumptuous to ask any person in particular for an opinion.

I guess in a sense, so long as members engage with anybody posting a worthwhile question or subject, they'll get a response. I'm going to guess the overall opinion will be pretty well split down the middle. I think it's very hard not to include.com/net/org/info in general discussions when they have established usage in the UK . And I know a dedicated section is there but, it does seem to be leaking out of there - even if i'm the guilty party

Ps just noticed my question about speaker recommendations - found its way to page two of Google UK for the question.

"recommended pc speakers for under £100" which wasn't even in the text, all good stuff eh

I'm not saying TLDs aren't allowed or important here, if anything I would imagine that members, including myself, have recently spread their portfolio a bit (following all the turmoil with Nominet lately).

What I won't allow to happen is for the gTLD section to get swamped with very low quality domains.

Just went to NamePros - which has changed it's layout a lot since I was last there. What strikes me most is only a 1.5% active member base (Members: 199,478, Active Members: 3,203) - so member retention is very low.
