Acorn Domains on Citywide

A remarkably clueless article, will do exactly NOTHING to educate people about buying/selling valuable generic domain names. Sadly typical of the mainstream press...

Nearly every paragraph has factual errors and overall the article gives the impression there's little opportunity or money making potential from domains. And nothing said about people who actually develop domains into profitable websites. Nothing mentioned about investing in generic domains pulling in traffic as an alternative to spending on advertising. Nothing mentioned about large portfolio holders with massive aggregate traffic making a fortune from ads let alone sales.

Sounds like it has been written by a pessimist wholy ignorant of domains. And why did they pick Herald Information Systems as an authority on domains? They're hardly a major player in the domain market. Looks like a normal web design outfit. Why not a professional domain trader or an entrepreneur who has invested in premium domains and developed them? Someone with a track record for making a lot of money from domains.

How did an article like that even get published?

How did an article like that even get published?

The same way the last 99 clueless domaining articles in the mainstream press got published: they're commissioned by people without any subject matter knowledge at all. In fact, probably with what I would call "negative subject matter knowledge" i.e. even the little they know ("Everyone who buys domains to sell is a cybersquatter" etc.) is WRONG.

If you set out to build a house on a foundation of porridge, it's not very surprising that it comes crashing down around your ears almost immediately. So it is with mainstream journalism and domaining...
