Hi Matt - I’m interested in how people actually use these domains to good effect…

do you know if there are any old threads on here where that’s been discussed?

if you use the domain and just set up a 301 redirect, do the backlinks tend to still stay live over time?

or is a better way to set up a new website, and scrape old content from the waybackmachine, then create URLs to match the different back links?

if I knew how to use the value in them, I’d be up for developing out a couple

I'll reply here instead of PM in case anyone else wants to know.

You can use them to 301 redirect to a new or existing site to bolster the link profile but it does need to be done correctly. And of course you get better results if it's relevant. There are 'workarounds' though.

There are a few ways to do it.

1. Page by page redirect:
abc.com/page1 redirects to newsite.com/page1
abc.com/page2 redirects to newsite.com/page2

So you'd recreate page1 on the new site with similar/same content and redirect each old URL to their corresponding new URL

or is a better way to set up a new website, and scrape old content from the waybackmachine, then create URLs to match the different back links?

Yes you could do that too. So you could build a site on the SEO domain and use Ahrefs, Majestic to identify old URLs/pages that had traffic and links pointing to them, to reduce chance of losing links.

Another way to use them is to 301 redirect the whole domain to a guest post you've managed to get on a high profile site. I've heard that can work extremely well too. Obviously the target guest post should have a link to your site or an affiliate offer etc.

Another way is to 301 redirect the whole domain to a new post on your site all about the original domains niche, so, taking the example of the job site above, you would create a long post about jobs/careers in Southwark, to make it relevant. Then you'd add internal links from that new content to other pages/posts on your site so it gives a boost to your most important pages.

Yeah, that's a very good point. Have to be a bit careful if in doubt then have the content re-written or use an AI content writer to do it for you.

thanks guys - much appreciated - I've been using Jarvis.ai to 'spin' some content for a client - visiting sites that are ranking well for his chosen keywords, and then taking the text and running it thought Jarvis - still takes a thorough read thru and some further editing, but it looks good in principle.

The results are showing up as 0% on Copyscape - only time will tell if the SEO value is any good
