I think you'll find that this fad was started by someone attending Nottingham university, hence isn't an american "invention".

I think it was done in USD rather than GBP as most major advertisers are US based. most advertising revenue is in USD, not GBP.

You really should do your homework

I'll offer you $10 paypal to delete the domain? :)

I know that man...Don't worry about my research my friend!!!

That applies to the stock market...and with the stockmarket slowly shifting towards a 'tech-market'. I think it applies on the net. The migration from America to the UK for certain web ideas are easy, we share a common language etc..

America sneezes

AmericaSneezes - All major domain TLDs available! Maybe I could make a quick million by registering them all

"If America sneezes; we catch a cold!"

If that's the case who'll make me an offer for babydaddy.co.uk

Seriously Lex, how much money have you wasted in the last few weeks?

I've been reading your posts in absolute amazment but hoping they were just wind-ups.

You've got to stop registering names until you've thought out your game plan, coz right now you're just thowing money down the drain.

Look, I've just caught o2mobiles.com and it's cost me £38 and I'll feel sick as a parrot, now I've got to look at it sitting in my list all year wishing I hadn't bothered, but importantly o2mobiles.com is much better than anything I've seen you register.

Be smart and think before you reg anymore

Searches done in August 2005
Count Search Term
8 o2mobiles.co.uk

I know the above is .co.uk, but it may get some type in traffic...might be able to break even in 12 months :)

02mobiles.com is good...if you are o2. They can take it from you when they like. I had a problem with t-mobilecallertunes.co.uk etc...if they want it they can take it.

By the way, Lettings-Agent.com is a lot better than o2mobiles.com...and so are a lot of my domain names!

I'm confused Lex.

If you were buying any other investment (i presume your domains are meant to be investments) you would do your hardest to make sure you make a buying decision that maximises future growth or value.

Why pick domains with a high risk of not selling? It's like buying shares in a weak company with very low chance of making any return at all.

This forum obviously has some real quality domain investors in. I'm learning here. Put your credit card away and do some research. This morning while searching I picked up http://www.lyrics.co.uk for the normal reg fee. It's already paid for itself on Sedo in clicks (in half a day - no joke i'm well chuffed), and my computer still hasn't propagated the DNS change. Thats because I listened to people on here and waited till I found a real corker.

Acorn is a nice community, people want to help. Listen!!

Regards
Johnny

 but then i'm the sad case looking at domains when I should be at a club talking to ladies.

Congratulations ratboy

lyrics.co.uk is a beauty, I am not surprised it paid for itself already, the overture count for lyrics is huge. I reckon you will get around 200/250 type-in visitors a day.

As for going out, if you are going to find domains like that...forget the birds, stay in.

Ratboy - that has got to be one of the best unregs out there, a massive well done, although I'm insanely jealous - it's a beauty!

In response to Lex - the likelyhood of o2 taking back the name, although I'd be happy if they did, is very very small. You see, o2 don't prohibit bidding on the keywords o2 & 02. The other thing is that it wasn't an unreg like all your domains, it was a drop, someone else had been using it for 5 years previously.

Admittedly, lettings-agent.com isn't too dreadful but it does have what some people call the "hyphen of death". If you do manage to find a buyer for it, and it is feasable that you could, any profit you'd make would be wiped out by the money wasted on things like:

LettingsAgent.net
LettingsAgents.net
LettingsAgency.net
Lettings-Agent.com
Lettings-Agent.net
Lettings-Agents.com
Lettings-Agents.net
Lettings-Agency.com
Lettings-Agency.net

eEstateAgent.net
e-EstateAgent.net
e-EstateAgents.net

estate-agencies.net

But no-one is going to come to you to get it, you've got to get out there and sell it.

I made and attempt to sell "acheapflight.co.uk" earlier this year, emailing over 2000 travel agencys and management companies, a business I've been in for over 20years and guess how much interest? zippo!

Keep up the posts, they don't hald make my day

Hi there,

Lyrics.co.uk - An absolute corker...forget the birds! They can come play to your tune when you've got 'Loads-a-money.............'

Ha Ha!!

By the way how DO YOU 'pick up' dropping names etc...HELP!!!

"DO YOU"? If your refering to me... well that http://www.lyrics.co.uk one was a fluke. 2 bottles of wine, huge meal = up at 4am wondering around like zombie. Decided to play domains. I fluked it. I'm not boastful, it was a fluke. But then i have spent about 6 hours a day building a huge list since leaving my old job.

Picking up drops is hardwork. Lex007 i'd say get look that the top bar of this site and click "domain software". Thats the biggest tip anyone can get.

Good luck mate, and remember keep it in your pants. (i.e. don't buy crap domains, wait work hard and only buy when you have done some research, meant in the nicest possible way!!!)

:)

J2theIZZO

How the f**k did you know?

I'm not really up on these things...but you were absolutely right..

at a cost of circa £40 pa I'll get that back on ppc, I know coz after 3 days I'm getting alot more than the $20 a day I thought and thats on duffo sedo

But thanks

My best domain to date

I don't get it Atlanta1

What did J2theIzzo know? What domain? I am looking at the thread but can't work it out!

Ah, it was in post #8

Some how he predicted I'd break even on o2mobiles.com within 12 months, considering I caught it from a drop and had to pay USD60.

So far it's been my best domain, 32 views in 4 days and a 50% click thru rate... not bad condidering I thought it'd be my worst
